SUMMARY: 
The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10 - 12 weeks our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects. 
The Global Sourcing and Procurement (GSP) organization at BioMarin is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that enable innovation, ensure supply continuity, and deliver value across the enterprise. The GSP Direct team partners closely with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Technology Development to optimize supplier relationships in support of BioMarin’s mission of bringing life-changing therapies to patients with rare diseases. 
JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT: 
The Summer Intern will play a key role in supporting the development of sourcing category strategies focused on Supply Chain and Manufacturing. This internship offers exposure to complex global supply markets and the opportunity to contribute to strategic procurement initiatives in the biotech industry. 
You’ll build cross-functional collaboration skills, deepen your understanding of biotech industry supply chains, and strengthen your ability to influence strategic procurement decisions—positioning yourself for future leadership roles in sourcing and supply chain management. 
Key responsibilities include: 
  • Conducting market assessments to evaluate supplier landscapes, industry trends, and competitive dynamics. 
  • Partnering with cross-functional business stakeholders to define requirements and align sourcing strategies with organizational needs. 
  • Researching best practices in sourcing models, supplier relationship management, and category strategy development. 
  • Assisting in the preparation and execution of complex negotiation planning with global suppliers. 
  • Supporting the creation of category strategies that drive cost savings, innovation, and risk mitigation for critical manufacturing and supply chain categories. 
  • Delivering insights and recommendations to senior leaders based on data-driven analysis and benchmarking. 
Required Skills: 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights. 
  • Proficiency in financial analysis to support sourcing decisions and negotiation strategies. 
  • Familiarity with supply chain and manufacturing operations 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and deadlines. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools. 
Desired Skills: 
  • Prior experience in procurement, finance, supply chain, consulting, or operations. 
  • General understanding of biotech manufacturing and supply chain processes  
  • Exposure to global supply markets and supplier relationship management. 
  • Experience with procurement systems (e.g., SAP Ariba, Coupa) and/or data analytics platforms. 
  • Interest in pursuing a career in global sourcing, procurement, finance or supply chain management. 
Qualifications/Eligibility: 
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time MBA student at an accredited U.S. based university or college with a focus in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Finance or Strategy. 
  • Has already completed Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or Finance  
  • Must be available to work full time, 40 hours a week.  
  • Must be enrolled in the fall term after the completion of the internship OR have graduated within 1 year of the start of the program.   
  • Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship for on-site, hybrid roles. Some positions will be open to remote interns, but employee must be within United States borders.

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $ 32 to $50 per hour, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
