SUMMARY
We are looking for an experienced leader to provide finance, accounting and decision support for the US and APAC controllership teams. This position will supervise a team focused on accounting operations, month-end close, and supporting internal and external financial reporting. The successful candidate will have leadership experience as part of a fast-paced public company environment and be a strong business partner and collaborator with excellent communication skills. Candidate must have strong US GAAP accounting skills and previous experience with combination of Big 4 audit and public company accounting, supervising general ledger close activities, and leading transformational or process improvements initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the monthly closing activities for US and APAC regions, including but not limited to R&D expense recognition and clinical trial accruals; fixed asset and SaaS accounting; operating expense recognition and accruals; accounts payable; and cash management. Additional oversight of statutory reporting and payroll operations in the APAC region.
- Oversight of monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses and supporting schedules for SEC reporting and external audit requests.
- Support contract reviews and reviews of other business transactions to determine the correct US GAAP Accounting, including providing proactive guidance to business partners and influencing business decisions.
- Lead team of more than 20 accounting professionals, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Lead process transformation, standardization, and enhancements including acting as a key business partner and influencer in our SAP S/4 HANA implementation.
- Ensure internal controls are operating effectively.
EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
- 15+ years experience in controllership, accounting, reporting and general ledger close, preferably with a combination of Big 4 audit and public company experience.
- Expertise in US GAAP and internal controls.
- Experience with ERPs (e.g. SAP, Oracle); experience in ERP implementations a plus.
- Proven ability to build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams in dynamic, high-growth environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong collaboration skills with an enterprise leadership mentality.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent

The salary range for this position is: $210,200 to $315,200. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
