Role Summary:
The Commercial IT Architect – Blueprint & Strategy Lead is responsible for designing and maintaining the strategic technology blueprint for the Commercial landscape. This role acts as the chief architect of a “city plan” that integrates platforms, data, infrastructure, application and innovation zones to support Commercial business capabilities across Field, Marketing, Value & Access. The architect will drive alignment with Enterprise Architecture, Commercial IT, and business stakeholders to ensure a scalable, secure, and future-ready technology ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
Blueprint Ownership & Strategic Architecture
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive Commercial Technology “City Plan” that maps platforms, data flows, integration layers, and innovation zones.
• Define and evolve target state architectures for CRM, omnichannel engagement, analytics, and field enablement.
• Ensure architectural consistency across global markets while supporting local adaptability.
Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Team Collaboration
• Partner with Commercial business leaders to translate strategic goals into technology capabilities.
• Work closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to align with enterprise-wide standards, governance, and long-term strategy.
• Collaborate with the Commercial Data IT team to ensure data architecture, analytics platforms, and governance are integrated into the blueprint.
• Facilitate alignment across IT delivery teams, vendors, and external partners.
Use Case Enablement & Solution Design
• Lead architecture design for high-impact use cases such as customer journey orchestration, sales force automation, and digital marketing.
• Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies to support Commercial innovation.
• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Governance, Standards & Compliance
• Establish and enforce architecture governance frameworks, integration standards, and data models.
• Ensure adherence to security, privacy, and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
• Participate in architecture review boards and provide guidance to delivery teams.
Innovation Leadership
• Drive innovation through experimentation zones, tech radar assessments, and partnerships with startups and vendors.
• Promote a composable architecture approach to enable agility and modularity.
• Champion data-driven decision-making and customer-centric design principles.
Business Process Expertise
• Apply deep understanding of Commercial business processes across Sales, Marketing, Field Operations, and Customer Experience to inform architectural decisions.
• Ensure technology solutions are tightly aligned with operational workflows and business outcomes.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in IT architecture, with a strong focus on Commercial or Customer-Facing domains.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing enterprise-scale architecture blueprints and frameworks that influence organizational strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior business leaders, acting as a trusted advisor on technology decisions that impact Commercial growth and transformation.
- Experience working with Enterprise Architecture and Data IT teams in a matrixed organization to drive alignment across global and regional strategies.
- Expertise in Commercial business processes and operational models, including Sales, Marketing, Digital Marketing, and Value & Access.
Technical Skills:
- Deep understanding of Commercial platforms (Salesforce, Veeva, Adobe Experience Cloud, Model N), data ecosystems (Databricks), and cloud infrastructure (Azure).
- Ability to define target state architectures and guide adoption of emerging technologies for scalability, security, and compliance.
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills, with proven success in executive-level communication and influence.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in life sciences, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
- Familiarity with agile delivery models, DevOps practices, and composable architecture.
- Certifications in TOGAF, SAFe, or cloud platforms.

The salary range for this position is: $160,000 to $220,000. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
