Global Sourcing and Procurement
The Global Sourcing and Procurement (GSP) organization is accountable for driving and delivering Procurement value to support stakeholders’ and organizational strategic objectives.The GSP function delivers value to BioMarin by leading transformation change and implementing industry leading category strategies that directly support the corporate strategy.The GSP organization leverages market intelligence, subject matter expertise and business insights in the procurement of good and services and management of BioMarin’s growing third party spend of $1B+. Through collaboration with our external suppliers and internal business partners, GSP helps bring innovative new medicines to patients.
This Associate Director, Global Strategic Sourcing – IT and Professional Services is responsible for leading and delivering Sourcing and Procurement value across BioMarin’s Information Technology and Professional Services categories. This is a hands-on role that focuses on leading a team, delivering results, defining and implementing strategies, policies, and objectives related to the Category Management, Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management of the Information Technology and Professional Services areas of spend. Candidates must have a strong understanding of the Strategic Sourcing and Category Management processes, as well as knowledge of the IT hardware, software, telecom, services, and Professional Services spend categories across multiple functions (Management Consulting, Tax, Audit, Banking, Translations and other corporate services). The success of this role is dependent on the candidate’s ability to build strong relationships with stakeholder business partners across the entire BioMarin organization, obtain consensus and drive decisions, and structure and realize value from the programs and spend in these areas while maintaining a focus on the patient.
The Associate Director, Global Strategic Sourcing – IT and Professional Services will report to the Senior Director, Global Enterprise Services Strategic Sourcing and Category Management, and will frequently partner with leadership of the broader IT, Finance and other stakeholder functions within the business.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Procurement professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team's success and professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team, encouraging continuous improvement and innovation in procurement practices.
- Oversee the team's activities, including category management, strategic sourcing, supplier management, and contract negotiations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with critical business partners in Legal, Finance, Information Technology, and others across the organization.
- Define and lead cross-functional stakeholder teams to understand and ensure business strategies, budget targets and requirements are met for the category.
- Utilize spend analytics, market research and trends, and supplier intelligence to understand category spend – trends, spread across business and across suppliers.
- Define category strategies and sourcing strategies to gain efficiency and drive quality, value and optimal total cost of ownership within the spend/category in partnership with BioMarin and supplier partners.
- Execute RFx and supplier selection processes with cross-functional sourcing teams.
- Understand risk elements of suppliers within the category markets and define/engage risk assessment and mitigation tactics for those risk elements.
- Develop, negotiate, support, and manage global contracts with suppliers in line with stakeholder / business needs and sound contracting structures and terms.
- Quantify and report savings/value of category contracts and spend and related supplier relationships; understand and measure compliance with, and utilization of, global agreements and relationships.
- Implement supplier relationship management (SRM) and governance programs to ensure/increase value and supplier performance and drive innovation within the spend categories.
- Lead development and implementation of internal GSP team processes, policies and tools that support overall team activities and objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or life sciences; MBA, C.P.M., or A.P.P. are desirable.
- 10+ years strategic procurement experience with extensive knowledge of category management, advanced sourcing, and complex contract negotiations expertise.
- Experience leading multiple categories and sourcing teams within the Information Technology space and Professional Services, including a basic understanding of the drug development process.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including solid interpersonal, analytical and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, including a proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strategic thinker who develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and innovation.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Strong analytical skill set required to drive problem-solving and innovative solutions.

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $ 144,000 to $ 216,000 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A discretionary bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
