Job Summary
The Associate Director/Director, Global MFG Strategy & Business Operations reports to the SVP, Global Manufacturing.  This is an initiative-taking, technically knowledgeable leader, with broad experience in technical operations and manufacturing. In conjunction with the SVP, Global Manufacturing, the incumbent actively contributes to the development of long-term strategies, while monitoring and governing execution of initiatives to ensure TOPS and Corporate Objectives are met. This position works closely with the TOPS Strategy Business and Operations Lead and others from across the network to ensure consistency and alignment of all business processes.
SCOPE
This position will sit on the Global Manufacturing Leadership Team (Global MFG LT) and will facilitate alignment of strategic direction for the Manufacturing Organization to ensure annual objectives are established in accordance TOPS strategic targets and those of our partners across BioMarin.  
This leader supports the Global MFG LT, extended LT (Site LTs), and new Business Units, as appropriate. The individual is responsible for driving key strategic initiatives for the Global Manufacturing Organization such as, Network Strategy, Organizational Transformation, Operational Business Processes, and continuous improvement through Operational Excellence.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement new innovative business models and solutions to support harmonization of key processes across the global network.
  • Contribute to the formulation of long-term strategies, while monitoring and governing execution to ensure TOPS and Corporate Objectives are met.
  • Partner with the Global MFG LT and SVP, Global Manufacturing to drive strategic direction for the Manufacturing Organization to ensure annual objectives are established in accordance TOPS strategic targets and those of our partners across BioMarin.
  • Govern and monitor the execution of key initiatives against objectives in terms of progress (v. plan) and desired outcomes. Deliver updates and recommendations on progress, risks, and actions required to attain objectives.
  • Coordinate alignment of high-level strategic goals across various workstreams as it relates to TOPS, Global Operations, and our Manufacturing sites.
  • Lead key strategic initiatives when required for the Global Manufacturing Organization such as Network Strategy, Organizational Transformation, Operational Business Processes, continuous improvement through Operational Excellence, and cross-functional projects to support business strategies & execution.
  • Lead quarterly management reviews of strategy and ensure seamless planning of portfolio management activities, and project portfolio prioritization cycles.
  • Lead the development, execution and cascading of strategies and corresponding goals / KPIs that span the portfolio in partnership with key stakeholders and ensures network alignment.
  • Document and maintain Manufacturing Management Systems (Standards) and help ensure consistent application across the Network. Promote continuous improvement and sharing of best practices.  
  • Coordinate development of annual Business Plan for Global Operations and ensure alignment with each site. Monitor KPIs for objectives/initiatives in execution, update OKRs’ status and effectively communicate/share with stakeholders.
  • Partner with Global Manufacturing and Global Operations to maintain and ensure alignment of Balanced Scorecards. 
  • Develop overall strategy for effective communication across teams and presentations on behalf of the SVP, Global Manufacturing.

  • Support strategic programs, projects, and initiatives in the Global Manufacturing organization, ensuring alignment of transformation initiatives and common strategic goals.
  • Maintains high standards of performance, consistently collaborates with all stakeholders, and follows through on commitments. Takes the long view, and when faced with challenging obstacles, exemplifies always doing what is in the best interest of patients.
  • Serve as a key thought partner and advisor to the SVP, Global Manufacturing and MFG leadership team, closely collaborating on efforts to advance the TOPS Goals
  • Serve as the facilitator of the MFG LT (including Tier 5 escalation meetings), participate in network strategic discussions, and serve as the primary site contact for the network strategy planning and deployment activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the SVP-Global Manufacturing, MFG LT, Business Unit leaders, and others (e.g., senior management, experienced experts, SMEs) across the organization to advise and influence towards desired outcomes.
  • Work closely & collaboratively with Site Operations, Global Quality Functions, Regulatory, Technical Development, Clinical Operations, MSAT, Operational Excellence, and Finance to achieve business goals.
  • Lead, motivate, and support a complex network of leaders and/or experienced specialists/experts (MFG LT), empower and inspire others by influencing on all hierarchy levels from shop floor up to senior leadership team.


EDUCATION

Bachelor or graduate degree in business administration, life sciences or engineering
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant industry experience, pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry preferred with specific experience in leadership roles.
  • Thorough understanding of and experience with some aspect of technical operations or CMC; interest and demonstrated ability to learn across several disciplines (manufacturing, Manufacturing, supply chain, technical development, regulatory, patient experience, finance, operations, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, aligning, socializing, monitoring, adapting, and delivering strategies in dynamic, rapidly changing environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and influence cross-functional teams not under direct organizational reporting lines to communicate challenging goals and achieve objectives.
  • Possesses good financial acumen and skilled in project management and decision analysis.
  • Strong computer skills. Experience developing and managing projects/programs including tools for milestones and resources.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish results and meet deadlines and commitments.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills. Shares critical information with project team and senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated analytical and logic skills with a focus on fact-based decision-making.
  • Ability to travel ~15%.
CONTACTS
This position will interact with all other departments throughout the organization. This position will partner and influence with Manufacturing Site Leads. Operational Excellence, Global Operations, Technical Development, Compliance, Finance, HR, and other departments as required. This position requires constant contact with GQLT across the organization.

This position may be hired at either Associate Director or Director, depending on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.  Compensation will align with the corresponding salary range.  The salary listed in the job description is reflective of the Associate Director range.

The salary range for this position is: $145,600 to $200,000. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
