Position Description
The EHS&S Sr. Specialist supports the overall BioMarin Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S) operations, with focus on the Ergonomics program across multiple business functions.
This position will report directly to the Associate Director, EHS&S Policy/Program Governance with responsibility to implement the Ergonomics program and will act as the EHS&S representative on various cross-functional projects. The incumbent will communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and act as a positive influence on people and process.
This position is based in BioMarin’s corporate headquarters located in San Rafael, California.
This position is not offered as a fully remote role, but a hybrid role may be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
Ergonomics SME
- Serve as a subject matter expert for the Ergonomics program.
- Conduct ergonomics assessments in variety of workplace settings including office, laboratories, warehousing, and manufacturing.
- Conduct ergonomic risk assessments and implement other proactive measures.
- Update, and manage any written documentation relating to the Ergonomics program.
- Update computer based and in person ergonomics trainings.
- Recommend and work with stakeholders to implement solutions and best practices
- Investigate incidents, near misses and safety suggestions including conducting root cause analyses.
- Work directly with internal partners and stakeholders.
- Work directly with external consultants, contractors, and vendors.
General
- Directly support the Associate Director, EHS&S Policy/Program Governance to reduce the risk of injury/illness from ergonomic hazards including identifying and addressing corrective actions and best practices.
- Develop health and safety procedures, trainings, and written programs.
- Provide strategic support to stakeholders to reduce ergonomic risks to staff and improve safety awareness and culture.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners/stakeholders.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
- Use EHS&S and company software systems effectively.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Required Skills
- 8-10 years prior experience with bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, or relevant discipline (Industrial Ergonomics, Human Factors, Biomechanics).
- Experience managing an Ergonomics program and conducting ergonomics assessments in a variety of workplace setting including industrial.
- Subject matter expertise and demonstrated knowledge of ergonomics and human factors.
- Experience using industrial ergonomics tools (e.g. NIOSH lifting, REBA, RULA).
- Demonstrated experience in working with cross functional teams.
Desired Skills
- Professional certification such as CSP, CIH, CPE.
- Prior experience in a biopharmaceutical setting.
- Prior experience managing an ergonomics program at an industrial or research facility.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) is required.

Travel
- Up to 25% domestic and international travel may be required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- No direct reports but may manage the performance of contractors and vendors and will advise/direct other employees.

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $ 105,600 to $ 158,400 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A discretionary bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
