Senior Manager, Competitive Intelligence

OVERVIEW: Competitive Intelligence Team

The Competitive Intelligence group is responsible for providing best-in-class competitive insights to optimize BioMarin’s on-market, clinical and research programs. The group also supports Investor Relations, Business Development, Commercial, Manufacturing, and Medical Affairs’ efforts. The CI team is committed to ensuring relevant, timely, and impactful insights to support the programs and achievement of corporate goals.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Manager will provide value added scientific and commercial competitor analysis to support global deliverables for development-stage programs, research projects, business development opportunities, and assist senior CI team members with on market or soon to launch products. Examples include competitive landscape assessments, ongoing monitoring and conference coverage; incorporation of insights to ensure competitive strategic plans for the programs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Competitive Intelligence
  • Drive competitive analysis/intelligence for development stage programs
  • Lead and coordinate competitive intelligence activities across the company
  • Refine and enhance the competitive intelligence functionality and processes
  • Support CI team with on market or soon to launch programs
  • Prioritize, attend, analyze and report on key Scientific/Medical Conferences; coordinate with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Leverage learning, product/disease knowledge, and best practices across programs and brands to help the CI team and partners enhance their strategic insights
  • Provide ad hoc request support and deliverables for line management
  • Present summarized results to senior leaders and address questions from senior leadership with poise, conviction, and credibility
  • Influence brand/core team strategic decision-making based on broad technology and disease-area knowledge
  • Ensure upkeep of content in knowledge management. Identify and lead the improvement of the tool for future iterations.

     2. Portfolio Strategy

  • Assist with preparations for annual board of directors’ strategy meeting, as well as semi-annual portfolio review/budget meetings.
  • Provide assistance to product core team leaders as they develop long term plans
  • Work with a variety of departments including finance, commercial, clinical, regulatory and business development to carry out qualitative and quantitative analyses
  • As needed, work with functional management on internal strategy projects
  • Assist in scientific and market assessments to support Lifecycle Management work

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of pharmaceutical development and commercialization process, as well as industry competitive dynamics
  • Superior analytical ability and project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse teams across organizational lines and structures
  • Strong oral/written communications and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with the basic business software tools and environment and pharma CI data sources

 PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:

  • This role may manage rotational direct-reports if needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS required, MBA/PharmD/PhD or other advanced degree preferred
  • 2+ years of relevant competitive intelligence and pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Experience with pharma CI processes, platforms, and data sources (e.g., commercially available clinical trial databases)
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical development and commercialization process, as well as industry competitive dynamics
