Associate Director, Global Brand Management - Strategy and FIND

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join our global brand management team to lead global commercial strategy to shorten diagnostic odyssey for patients and families with rare diseases.   

The Technical Competencies expected from this person will be:

Strategy development (Advanced level): This role is dedicated to global strategies and tactics to support earlier diagnosis for our LSD disease states, CLN2, MPS VI and Morquio A.  This position reports to the LSD Executive director.

This position will play an active role across multiple BioMarin products. This position requires the development of an overarching analysis and Strategy on the approach of the educational - FIND and diagnostic tactics.  The position will implement and coordinate the necessary programs, tactics and KPI analysis to permit the base business to continue to grow on the necessary pace. The Global position also requires a lot of influencing related to all support areas in order to better disseminate the broad projects to all the regions. Projects with Global reach will be chosen and conducted by this person.

  • Market Execution (Advanced level): Considering the years to come and the recognition that FIND Strategies continue to be an important part of base business of BioMarin, all the projects to come will probably need a more structured proposition as business cases and will for sure require a follow up strictly related to better measurement of results/ KPIs. The strategies and tactics proposed for the achievement of the goals will surely need to be more innovative.
  • Brand Development and Management (Advanced level): The careful follow up on Campaigns and Brand Styles across the regions. Operational, organizational, problem solving, communications, and project management skills will be very important for the best achievement on this position. Strong results orientation and a sense of urgency to get things done are critical.  This professional is a disciplined risk-taker that embraces innovative approaches and is comfortable in an entrepreneurial and growing commercial organization.  Must be creative and adaptable to unique and changing situations, be goal-oriented, know how to set aggressive, achievable targets, and motivate internal cross-functional teams as well as third-party vendors and agencies.
  • Understanding Market Dynamics (Advanced level): This Associate Director should be able to collect and analyze information on the educational and diagnostic scenario related to Lysosomal Diseases and propose actions if needed.
  • Disease and product knowledge (Advanced level): knowledge of the products, their life cycle and implications on each region will help to better construct the needed strategies and tactics relevant for the growing of the business. This person will be responsible for the Budget construction and control   and the Expenses should be periodically reviewed for insights and actions.
Responsibilities 
  1. Analyze Existing Find Strategies and refine KPIs and dashboards to improve efficiencies and effectiveness.
  2. Support the growth of LSD business globally by driving strategies for earlier diagnosis. Working closely with LSD Global and Regional brand leads and scientific affairs, develop and champion strategies to support early detection and diagnosis for our disease areas.
  3. Responsible for identifying, developing and managing key global marketing activities/ tools such as disease/symptom messaging related to screening and early diagnosis, digital strategy and execution, advisory board meetings, market research, and appropriate input into publication plan. Collaborate closely with (4) regional teams worldwide to foster ongoing screening and diagnosis success, and ensuring global strategies and tactics are well aligned with regional needs and priorities.
  4. Represents Commercial on NBS/Diagnostics working team. Responsible for supporting Commercial team education in trends related to diagnosis and testing.
  • 5+ years of marketing experience in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals
  • Orphan/ultra orphan disease experience
  • Track record of leadership success interacting at all levels of a matrix organization, cross-functionally and cross-geography
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong planning and organization skills

Core Competencies:

  • Communication, collaboration and team work and Leadership (Advanced level): this person should be able to collect information from all the regions and influence them on the best practices in terms of the strategic thinking and tactical execution. Relationship with Physicians within BioMarin and KOL’s of the most varied profile will bring the needed insights for overcoming the challenges. Relationship with Patient Advocacy Groups in all regions can also contribute for a better view of our final consumer and its needs.
Requirements
This person should be a very good problem solver and decision maker. Proactivity and adaptability will be at advanced level.
  • 5+ years of marketing experience in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals
  • Orphan/ultra orphan disease experience
  • Track record of leadership success interacting at all levels of a matrix organization, cross-functionally and cross-geography
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong planning and organization skills

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • MBA preferred
