Research Associate, Cell Culture Process Development

Location Novato, California

BioMarin’s Cell Culture Process Development groupis responsible for designing and scaling up the cell culture processes for production of biomolecules, including proteins for enzyme replacement therapies and viral vectors for gene therapies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Research Associate will be part of a stablished team of scientists and RAs working to develop and optimize AAV vectors production processes and assists team members in molecular biology and cell culturetasks including:

  • Nucleic acid/plasmid purification.
  • Cell propagation and plasmid transfection.Clone screening and selection.
  • DNA analysis by agarose electrophoresis. PCR.
  • DNA quantification by qPCR or ddPCR.
  • Protein analysis by ELISA, western blot.
  • Thorough documentation of procedures and results.
  • Flexibility, willingness to accept new responsibilities and perform in a fast paced environment.
  • Handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Closely interact with other team members; develop internal and external collaborations.
  • Present results and conclusions in group and department meetings.


EXPERIENCE:
Required:

  • Molecular biology and cell culture laboratory work experience.
  • Media and reagents preparation.
  • Good organization, data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Critical thinking, good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Desired:

  • DNA/RNA purification. In vitro DNA modification/Recombinant DNA techniques.
  • Hands on experience with Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors.
  • Analytical assays: qPCR, ddPCR, ELISA, electrophoresis, Western blot, cell-based assays.


EDUCATION:

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or in a related field with a concentration in molecular biology.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years or Master’s degree with 1+ years of laboratory experience in molecular biology and cell culture.
