Director, Global Logistics Excellence - Biotech

SUMMARY

The Director, Global Logistics Excellence is a newly created position which will focus on creating and leading the future state vision and digitization of global logistics operations across the entire organization. This role has a global, end to end remit across Global Logistics.  Global Logistics is comprised of Distribution, Transportation, Global Trade, Clinical and Commercial Supply Chain operations, Cold Chain Logistics, and Good Distribution Practice compliance. With a heavily virtual global supply chain network, logistics operational execution and visibility is currently challenged. This strategic leadership role will be tasked with advancing the Global Logistics strategic roadmap focused on digitization and future technology usage. This includes but is not limited to automating the execution of global logistics while enabling real time visibility globally. You will be starting from a “blank canvas” with an opportunity to work in a very entrepreneurial environment where new ideas and technology are welcomed and embraced. Ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation and value added process improvement realization across Global Supply Chain operations. In summary, this role is where Global Logistics subject matter expert knowledge meets aspirational strategic vision to define, implement, and integrate the future system design of Global Logistics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead continuous improvement programs and/or compliance projects that benefit or impact the Deliver business process
  • Lead change management process and controls for Global Logistics business processes
  • Compliance and performance monitoring of Global Logistics operations
  • Lead the Global Logistics operations digitization initiative by executing performance improvement initiatives
  • Implement and/or leverage systems and technology to simplify, improve productivity, and enable predictivity of logistics operations
  • Direct responsibility of Logistics Excellence team, including people and talent management
  • Budget responsibility for Global Logistics process improvement projects and system operational costs
  • Create and publish Global Logistics KPI and performance reports
  • Collaborate cross functionally and obtain indorsement of improvement priorities and implementation plans
  • Responsible for project management and execution for logistics process improvements
  • Lead and facilitate community of practice and virtual centers of excellence in Global Logistics
  • Develop and maintain Global Logistics SOPs/Work Instructions
  • Continually assess Global Logistics business processes with the mindset of continuous improvement
  • Monitor internal and external industry trends

SCOPE

The Global Logistics group is uniquely positioned as a key touch point across the entire organization, from R&D, to Clinical, through to Commercial. This role has the opportunity to impact the business across all these categories, with each having a unique purpose. Global expenses in scope of Global Logistics is in excess of $40M annually. Initiatives driven by this role include both capital and operational expenditures. Strategic initiatives defined by this role will have significant impact on headcount allocation across Global Supply Chain.

EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Operations, Engineering, or equivalent
  • 10 – 15 years logistics and supply chain experience, ideally in the pharmaceutical industry and in a complex, virtual, clinical/commercial supply chain environment
  • APICS certification desirable

EXPERIENCE

  • 5 – 10 years experience as a change agent within supply chain operations
  • Comprehensive understanding of supply chain relevant ERP systems, SaaS service provider, and supply chain partner integration / validation requirements
  • Significant logistics operational experience with subject matter expert level knowledge across global supply chain
  • Demonstrated, deep understanding of end to end logistics processes
  • Hands on experience in supply chain operations supply chain / logistics systems implementation project management
  • Lean / Six Sigma certification and proven track record in using LSS methodology and tools
  • Experience in deploying and reporting KPIs with leading indicators
  • Strong project management skills, PMP certification a plus
  • Working knowledge of import / export operations
  • Strong communication, presentation, decision making and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work in a global, matrix organization
  • Excellent people management skills with multicultural background and a strong track record of developing talent and organization capability
  • Strong intercultural skills to facilitate successful interactions in international markets

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY

This is a newly developed position and will start with at least 1 or 2 direct reports. Effective people management and talent development experience required with a focus on embracing a culture of open communication and proactive feedback with staff, peers, and management.
