SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

BioMarin is seeking a highly motivated Financial Accountant with solid experience in applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely results and to ensure appropriate account control procedures.  This position will be a key member of a cross-functional, multi-national, accounting team responsible for critical accounting areas, corporate & business accruals and ad hoc reporting. This position supports the EUMEA Senior Finance Manager - Accounting in undertaking both regular and ad hoc financial reporting activities and will have significant interaction with finance management and global accounting teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual corporate reporting to US under US GAAP (including account analysis & reconciliation and preparing inputs to month end reports including financial analysis & commentary)
  • Responsible for annual financial reporting to local statutory authorities under IFRS and local EUMEA GAAP
  • Reconciliation between US GAAP and local GAAP accounting
  • Detailed analytical review of financial data
  • Review entity profitability on a monthly basis to understand deviations and support Global Transfer Pricing team as required
  • Preparation of monthly journal entries
  • Perform/Review monthly reconciliations (Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and follow up & resolve reconciling items in a timely manner)
  • Accrual/prepayment preparation and analysis
  • Other local statutory reporting as required (e.g. statistical filings)
  • Support the yearend financial statement audit process and the SOX audit process
  • Presenting to senior leadership, including Senior Finance Director and Board of Directors on the financial performance of the entities
  • Manage relationships with outsourced providers as required (including auditors and outsourced accounting providers)
  • Support intercompany process for EUMEA entities ensure full reconciliation on consolidation
  • Identify opportunities for continuous process improvements and innovative solutions so the team can operate in an efficient manner, in BioMarin we aim to work collaboratively sharing ideas and supporting each other as necessary
  • Work closely with Finance colleagues both locally and globally, adhering to global deadlines
  • Support project and continuous improvement tasks as required
  • Assist with ad hoc financial analysis, queries and EUMEA Finance activities as required

EDUCATION

  • University degree in Business, Finance or Accounting
  • Newly Qualified or Part Qualified Accountant

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum three years relevant experience in similar role is essential
  • Knowledge of both US GAAP and IFRS is advantageous
  • Familiarity with Sarbanes Oxley and internal controls is desirable
  • Oracle experience is desirable
  • Strong technical accounting skills i.e. good knowledge of accounting standards
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical thinking and organisational skills
  • Proficiency in PC skills (particularly Word, Excel & Microsoft TEAMS)
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and to handle several projects at once

Organisational Relationships

Heavy interaction with Finance Department management and staff, cost center managers and external auditors.  Regular contact with Finance staff in Shanbally, the Netherlands and the US.
