BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. BioMarin Globally

Globally BioMarin Supply Chain Logistics distributes 7 commercial products to over 70 countries, our products are shipped from CMO’s to our main distribution centers and from there to secondary distributors, hospitals and patients. The Global Supply Chain Logistics team is also responsible for all aspects of Clinical product distribution. Our products are unique and precious and are all transported using active and passive temperature controlled shipping solutions.

BioMarin in Ireland

In Ireland, BioMarin operates a Biopharma Manufacturing Site in Shanbally, Co. Cork., and a Global Commercial Operations Hub in Dublin.

Role Summary

The Global Distribution Manager will serve as an integral member of the Global Supply Chain Logistics team who have responsibility for the Global set-up and operations of BioMarin’s global 3PL’s and distribution centres, supporting 100% of BioMarin revenue.  This role is primarily responsible for co-ordinating supply chain activities within the 3PL’s, DC’s and Contract CMO’s. As needed, the Distribution manager may also be required to support the Logistics side of the business through specific projects or supporting day to day operations.

The Distribution Manager will help strategically develop, manage, and lead distribution partners globally supporting a temperature controlled supply chain network.  Help develop Global Distribution strategy and infrastructure for a rapidly growing Biotech organization supporting commercial and clinical distribution requiring cold chain distribution, import/export compliance, and third-party distribution management.  Establish a GDP compliant Global Distribution network both internally and externally with 3PL partners and CMO’s.

The Global Distribution Manager will report to the Global Distribution Senior Manager.

Role Responsibilities

Distributor selection/qualification/management process and the ongoing management thereafter.

Relationship establishment with Key Distribution Centres / CMO decision makers, building and developing these relationships to ensure that the best service possible is provided for BioMarin’s patients and products.

Provide support for upcoming product launches, associated complexity and the need to be actively engaged with partner readiness activities.

KPI analysis to identify where performance must be improved and sustained.

Provides routine distribution support in the form of on-site visits and responding remotely to any technical challenges or issues.

Analyses inventory levels at the 3PL’s against company forecasts to ensure future capacity for BioMarin products.

Responsible for scheduling and maintaining routine business MBR / QBR meetings with each 3PL / DC. As part of these meetings the effective use of metrics and business targets are coordinated to support internal requirements.

Identifies areas of risk and acts appropriately to mitigate or remove the risk.

Participates in / leads complex projects / assignments, requiring considerable judgement and initiative in resolving problems and making recommendations.

Is acutely aware of the standards by which BioMarin operates and can ensure that the external organisations consistently deliver product which meets that requirement

Builds strong relationships with 3PL and CMO partners and internal cross functional groups; sharing information and best practices

Leads or supports projects to be executed at 3PL / DC such as process optimization, new product introduction or new technology introduction.

Education Required

A relevant third level qualification in Supply Chain, business administration, or related disciplines.

Masters or higher degree preferred.

Experience in Lean Six Sigma (green belt)

Experience Required

A minimum of 8 years’ experience working in a highly regulated Supply Chain environment (pharmaceutical, medical devices, etc) is required. experience in project management with external partners, from charter to close out.

Experience in cold chain shipping solutions for finished goods across all temperature ranges in the pharmaceutical industry.

Experience of the validation of Supply Chain required fridges and freezers is a distinct advantage.

Experience with project tools and computer applications including Visio for process mapping.

Experience in Distribution centre / 3PL technical oversight, including procedure writing and training.

Proficiency with Trackwise and with Oracle or other materials management systems is desired.

Must be quality oriented and possess a rigorous attention to detail, coupled with a demonstrated track record of delivering on goals and on initiative to institute change.

Ability to analyse processes and create detailed procedures which mirror all relevant activities.

Experience in 3PL and DC auditing and subsequent report out.

Experience with CAPA, FMEA, RCA tools in a highly regulated manufacturing environment is an advantage.

Working knowledge of GDP/GMP regulations is required.

Must have excellent written and verbal skills coupled with excellent interpersonal skills.

Must be a team player and be skilled at influencing without authority.

Logistics providers workings and experience beneficial.

This role will include 25% travel.
