BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

This position can be located Remote, U.S. but will work Pacific Standard Time zone hours. Our company Headquarters are in the Bay Area. If you are local, the role is Hybrid, working from home three days per week and spending two days in our Novato office.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The CMO/CDMO Global Category Manager is responsible for leading and delivering Procurement value across BioMarin’s CMO and CDMO network. The role collaborates with stakeholders and across the category manager network to optimize results.
This role is a direct contributor to stakeholder’s strategic objectives, goals, budget, and KPIs and includes the following functions: Technical Development, Global External Operations (GEO), Global MSAT, and Shanbally & Novato Manufacturing sites. Critical development and product pipeline milestones are supported by this role and includes tox studies, and clinical Phase 1/2/3 and commercial DS production. The CMO Global Category Leader is a key contributor to Technical Operation’s (TOPS) strategic objectives and plays a strategically important role bringing innovative medicines to patients.
As CMO Global Category Manager, you will be an extended member of the GEO leadership team and contribute to GEO and Technical Developments’ strategic objectives. You will leverage strong relationship building, strategic agility, and influence and collaboration skills to successfully lead category management, supplier relationship management (SRM), strategic sourcing and contract negotiations that achieve savings targets, mitigate risk, and other KPIs.
CMO and CDMO spend is a growing category with current spend at $150M.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads complex contract negotiations in line with stakeholder/business needs and financial targets. Ensures contract value realization.
- Lead CMO/CDMO sourcing process, including supplier risk assessments, RFx processes, RFx scorecards and supplier selection process.
-  Design sourcing strategies and develop supplier relationships that achieve maximum value from the current and potential supplier base. Continuously refine strategies to adapt and improve delivery of objectives.
-  Leads the creation and application of multi-year, end-to-end DS Category Strategy and the development of an annual pipeline of strategic category initiatives that deliver value (savings, risk reduction, quality/compliance, innovation, etc) for the business. Stakeholder’s strategies are aligned with category strategy.
- Identify and lead Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) programs that support BioMarin’s goals and government regulatory requirements. Focus areas include, but are not limited to, sustainability, supplier diversity, conflict materials, modern slavery and risk reduction.
-  Lead cross-functional teams in support of category projects and programs to achieve maximum value and reports savings.
- Utilize deep analytics to understand category spend and identify opportunities to gain efficiencies, including optimize cost savings, and risk mitigation opportunities.
- Leverage market and business intelligence to drive value including innovation, risk mitigation, quality/compliance, and cost optimization.


EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years strategic procurement experience with extensive knowledge of category management, advanced sourcing, and contract negotiations expertise.
• Experience in the CDMO/ CMO space is highly valued
• 5+ years in biotech / life sciences industry.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, including exceptional interpersonal, analytical and presentation skills.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Strategic thinker who develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovativeness.
• Bachelor's Degree in engineering, supply chain, or life sciences, MBA/MS preferred, C.P.M. desirable.

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $ 124,000 to $ 186,000 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A discretionary bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
