Role Summary
BioMarin launched its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) enterprise-wide operational initiative in 2022. The implementation of a new ERP system is critical for supporting that tomorrow for our patients and our people. An effective ERP will support bridging our planning, transactional and analytics processes to meet the needs of our growing and maturing organization.
Implementing a new ERP impacts the entire company – putting this system in place is equally complex and transformational. To achieve this challenging goal, the project team is built around seven key global process workflows as outlined below:
- Forecast to Plan (FTP)
- Source to Pay (STP)
- Plan to Produce (PTP)
- Inventory to Deliver (ITD)
- Order to Cash (OTC)
- Record to Report (RTR)
- Enterprise Asset Management (EAM)
An Enterprise data strategy has been put in place and as part of the ERP modernization, a centralized team of data leaders is being formed. This role will report directly into the enterprise data leader with a strong dotted line into the respective Global Process Team. Global Process Owners (GPO) are accountable for the development and integration of multiple process areas within the workstream and integration into the overall program. Our enterprise data strategy ensures data is managed as a priority and an asset across these process areas.
This rare and exciting opportunity is to be part of the biggest transformation effort BioMarin has undertaken in its history. Ideal candidate will have an end to end understanding of how data management and governance enables procurement and/or manufacturing of the first ingredient in supply chain to the distribution of the end products to the patient.
The successful candidate for this role would be someone who has worked in business organization handling Manufacturing and Supply Chain areas as well as working as part of a transformation / Center of Excellence (COE) organization to lead and deliver high impact global initiatives leveraging complex and spread-out enterprise level data.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads the development of global business data (master and transactional) model to achieve business process objectives in alignment with Process Leads and GPO in PTP.
- Deep understanding of the Material data domain and the interconnectivity with other process areas / data domains
- Provide data stewardship and support for PTP related business processes.
- Defines and implements global data standards and business rules and measures / drives improvement of data quality
- Manages accurate and complete provisioning of business data to enable the orchestration of business processes leveraging S4/HANA and IBP in short, middle and long-term horizon.
- Ability to manage resources both internal and external
- Develops and manages robust methodologies (ex: SLA management, adherence monitoring etc.) to maintain and report consistency and quality of master and transactional global business data in PTP area; collaborate and function as a liaison with Enterprise Data Team to drive alignment between global master data management (MDM) process and business processes.
- Leads the development of business data audit process - to ensure that data attributes and values required to support business processes is correctly reflected in the system.
- Scouts and identifies business data sources (regulatory database, LIMS etc.), assess data quality, relevance and format needed to support business processes within PTP.
- Collaborates with other partnering workstreams (ex: FTP) in ensuring that data is correctly modeled and reflected in the system (S4/HANA) from business data sources for consumption by PTP business systems (ex: SAP IBP).
- Leads the development and documentation of the business data requirements and acceptance criteria; business data model design within PTP and confirms the proper integration across other workstreams (Ex: FTP) to support end to end integrated business process.
- Responsible for gathering and documenting data elements needed to support PTP business processes from Process Leads and global/regional Subject Matter Experts (SME); collaborate with Systems Integrator (SI) and transform the data to a format needed by Enterprise Data Team for data conversion activities.
- Based on the data requirements and business process, identify Organization Change Management (OCM) impact areas and coordinate with OCM team to address these
- Participate in design sprints and ensures that data model suggested by SI meets the business data objectives and provides end-users an easily adoptable to method to view, manage and update data in the system.
- Reports and manages issues, risks, and scope questions related to business master and transactional data.
- Provide support to process leads on the following governance tasks - Process Design Document (PDD), Key Design Decisions (KDD) and Functional Specification Document (FSD).
- Review and approve the Master Data Design Document (MDD) prepared by system implementation team.
- Prepare business case for gap resolution related to data model to be presented at Change Control Board (CCB) meetings.
- Participate in build and testing sprints to validate that the data model and transformation satisfies business data model acceptance criteria.
- Prepares data and collaborates with Enterprise Data Team on data conversion and validation efforts during system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT) and production go-live to support PTP.
- Be a change champion for the project functionally and cross functionally and support cut-over and go-live activities, hyper-care and business adoption of the solution.
Experience & Skills:
The Global Business Data Leader will be a role that requires a growth mindset and dynamic set of analytical, business and collaboration skills, including the following:
- Minimum (5+) / Desired (10+) years of related End-to-End planning and manufacturing experience within biotech / pharmaceutical industry in managing one or more of the following areas:
- Planning, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality Management or other cross-functional business processes.
- In addition to business experience, a minimum (5+) year of experience in building and managing pharmaceutical master and transactional data models from a business perspective.
- Hands-on experience with SAP / ERP models such as Classes & Characteristics, Material Master, Bill of Material, Resources, Recipes and Production Orders required
- Experience managing data for Material, Customer and Vendor Data Domains
- Experience working in / maturing an Enterprise Data Governance / Stewardship Operating Model
- Experience and familiarity with Syniti or alternative MDM tools highly desired.
- Robust understanding of upstream and downstream PTP business processes, which enables modeling the master data and applicability of transactional data in a pharmaceutical context in SAP and other systems.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI required; additional data modeling and report building skills highly desired.
- Must have a thorough understanding of GxPs, FDA and international requirements for computer validation and Part 11 / Annex 11 requirements highly desired.
- Demonstrated quantitative and analytical modeling skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a matrix environment where great change velocity and tight deadlines exist.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of effective communication, persuasion, influencing as a team player and result oriented leader able to develop strong professional relationships with stakeholders.
- Experience managing people both direct and indirectly
- Demonstrated experience in influencing other with or without authority, facilitating discussion involving diverse perspectives and delivering key milestone decisions.

- Must be willing to be onsite (California / Ireland) based on program needs. Co-location weeks are approximately 1 per month.
Education:
BA/BS Business or the Sciences/Engineering required, advanced degree preferred.

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $ 152,000 to $ 228,000 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A discretionary bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
