POSITION OVERVIEW

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to establish new capabilities within BioMarin by developing and leading the Global Strategic Market Insights Team across our seven marketed products and a robust pipeline.   This is a new and leadership role within the organization and will be a critical member of brand leadership for the newly created Global Product Strategy function, whose remit it is to expand and strengthen global brands and capabilities for the entire commercial organization. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding across our marketed products and pipeline - of our customers, competitors, market dynamics, and deliver insights that help the organization drive patient impact.  The Senior Director, Integrated Market Insights is a results-oriented leadership role for a strategic analytical thought partner and will partner with Commercial Leadership to incorporate data science capabilities and insights into strategic plans to drive solutions and set priorities that will drive business performance. 

This leader will establish our strategic market insight capabilities and be acountable for creating the global vision and roadmap for BioMarin’s market insights.  This role will report to the Vice President, Global Product Strategy - Portfolio Strategy and Commercial Capabilities, and have a high degree of visibility across commercial leadership, regional partners, and functional leadership outside of commercial. Influence and collaboration across functions and regions are critical to be successful in this role.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Leverage strategic and analytical expertise to implement new analysis approaches, methods, tools, and capabilities and instill a discipline around market insights objectives, synthesis and action
  • Act as strategic partner to frame, investigate, translate complex data related models, and answer key business questions related to the identification and evaluation of Commercial and Medical brand strategies and tactics
  • Inspire a data-driven mindset across our brand teams and help stakeholders define clear, impactful business priorities and action plans
  • Build and lead a small team to integrate analytics and insights and drive data-driven market and lifecycle strategies across our seven marketed products and our pipeline (inclusive of all products and indications across our therapeutic areas)
  • Develop productive relationships with the Global Commercial Brand Leads, Global Market Access leads and Strategic Markets to help define insight objectives for the Integrated Brand Teams; help frame key business questions, and design strategic analysis workplans and budgets
  • Collaborate with Digital Innovation Lead and Brand Leads on digital strategy and market insights (ie, patient journey, channel dynamics, etc.)
  • Work closely with Digital Marketing and Omni-channel operations team to develop and implement robust marketing mix analytics and insights to improve customer reach and enhance field execution
  • Proactively synthesize insights from partners, primary and secondary data, and the market; working closely with Forecasting and Analytics, Competitive Intelligence, and other Medical and Data science teams to tell a cohesive story and collaboratively shape strategies and tactics to successfully meet brand objectives
  • Partner across organization on creating and implementing portfolio processes and approaches to provide visibility and utility of insights across the organization
  • Responsible for the design and delivery of primary and secondary market research, synthesizing the results from research into actionable insights, influence decision-making and set priorities. At times, be consultative partner for brand teams conducting market research, and work closely with brands on insights and recommendations
  • Accountable for providing context and insights to governance committees and ongoing leadership reports, including business reviews, earnings narrative, etc.
  • Supports Global Product Strategy and the Commercial organization with industry trends and pan-portfolio insights, including therapeutic area insights, diagnostic trends, and digital insights.
  • Objective when presenting insights and guiding decision-making; create influential presentation skills by pairing sound analytics with storytelling

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of relevant life sciences experience and a BA/BS in Sciences, Business, Finance; MBA or advanced degree, strategy consulting experience preferred
  • Strong sense of accountability and comfortable in a dynamic environment
  • Intellectually curious, with the ability to balance speed and rigor when answering business questions
  • Expertise in designing and fielding qualitative and quantitative primary market research plans
  • Experience synthesizing concise summaries focused on the key insights that inform business decisions
  • Proficiency in understanding market landscape and surfacing insights across multiple primary data sources
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of effectiveness and collaboration as a team player and result-oriented project leader able to develop strong professional relationships with stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Self-starter who demonstrates energy and enthusiasm, bringing a positive solution-oriented approach to challenges
  • Track record of scoping and executing cross-functional initiatives in matrixed organizations, collaborating with global, regional, and functional teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic and high-pressure environment
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet tight deadlines
  • A passion for improving patient and business outcomes
