The Market Access Strategy Director, Lysosomal Storage Disorders (LSD) will lead the US value, access, and reimbursement strategy launch efforts for BMN-111 (vosoritide), an innovative first-to-market therapy for individuals with achondroplasia, currently being evaluated in a Phase-III clinical trial. The Director will also maintain strong value, access, and reimbursement for BioMarin’s currently marketed enzyme replacement therapies. This position works closely with and ensures collaboration with multiple stakeholders within the commercial, medical affairs, and key corporate functions. This position reports to the Senior Director, Market Access Strategy and Payer Policy within North America Commercial Operations.


  • Ensures continued positive payer coverage of marketed LSD therapies through refinement of existing strategies and collaboration with partner commercial operations functional leads to ensure effective implementation of those strategies
  • Lead development of annual market access plan & tactics for LSD franchise and guide execution by Managed Markets & Medical field teams
  • Lead development and ensure implementation of US market access launch planning and overarching strategies for vosoritide
  • Lead the U.S. Market Access cross-functional launch team which consists of brand marketing, medical, HEOR, pricing & contracting, trade, account management, advocacy, public policy and other functions to align payer insights, develop access strategy/tactics and implement business plans to achieve access goals
  • Collaborate with regional access leads and clinical development/market planning teams to establish evidence needs for pipeline assets to maximize value & access
  • Develop the US market access value proposition within your therapeutic area and advocate on data and publication opportunities that ensure access
  • Actively serve as US market access SME/voice for achondroplasia and LSDs on US and global product teams in the commercial organization by integrating payer insights via market access research initiatives to inform market access, patient access, and brand strategies
  • Partner with US pricing and policy leads to evaluate pricing, coverage, and reimbursement environment that supports access to BioMarin’s LSD therapies and vosoritide
  • Own the development and implementation of pre-launch and launch initiatives including the US AMCP dossier and objection handling materials, associated CEA and BIM collateral, and other market access support tactics that ensure coverage and patient access to therapies within your franchise
  • Lead initiatives to understand, analyze and demonstrate the clinical, economic and societal value to payers, decision-makers and influencers
  • Effectively translate results of health economics and other research into concise messages for internal and external stakeholders that highlight the value of LSD therapies
  • Plan and execute HEOR projects as necessary (eg, Budget Impact Model, Cost Effectiveness Analysis, Claims studies)

Required Experience/Skills:

  • 8+ years US pharmaceutical industry experience with increasing responsibilities
  • 5+ years of experience developing and implementing US market access and reimbursement strategies in an in-house corporate role
  • Experience in the development of dossiers, reimbursement submissions, and implementation of pricing and payer strategies
  • Experience leading the development of economic models, claims data analyses, and related publications
  • Deep understanding of health policy and health system environment for specialty and rare therapies
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute on strategies
  • Excellent communication across all levels of management, collaboration, influence, strategic and analytical skills are required
  • Highly organized and skilled at managing teams and vendor projects
  • Solid project management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • US Product Launch Execution and Leadership
  • Rare disease therapy and/or specialty home infusion therapy experience highly preferred
  • Health economics experience a plus

Required Education:

  • Bachelors, preferably in life sciences or economics
  • MBA or MPH, preferred


  • This position is physically located in BioMarin’s corporate offices in San Rafael, CA, with travel approximately 25%
  • This position has no direct reports
