SUMMARY:
The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
The Neuroscience Analytical Pathology team within Research uses histological techniques to evaluate disease pathogenesis and therapeutic efficacy for a variety of pre-clinical and developmental projects with a strong focus on neurobiology. This position is for a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual committed to providing quality laboratory results in a timely and efficient manner.
JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:
The Intern within the Neuroscience Analytical Pathology group will provide scientific and technical support for running histological assays, assisting with whole slide imaging, and reviewing and quality checking results. The Neuroscience Analytical Pathology lab at BioMarin is a state-of-the art lab equipped with novel technologies and automated platforms and develops techniques primarily for discovery research using both standard and internally developed methodologies.
Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of immunohistochemistry (IHC) and/or immunofluorescence (IF) techniques
  • Experience using microscopes.
  • Strong interest in neuroscience and neurobiology.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer and organizational skills.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience of immunohistochemistry (IHC) and/or immunofluorescence (IF) techniques
  • Knowledge of neuroanatomy
  • Image quantification and analysis
Qualifications/Eligibility:
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, neurobiology, or other neuro-related degree.
  • Focus on a career in neuroscience research and microscopy-based technologies.
  • Student must be returning to school in the Fall Term OR has graduated within the 1 year of the start of the program.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours a week
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

In the U.S., the hiring range for this position is $ 21.00 to $ 25.00 per hour. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
