Intern, Analytical Chemistry

Location Novato, California

SUMMARY:

The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.

The Analytical Chemistry group is seeking a summer intern for routine and non-routine analysis and analytical method development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine sample preparation and analysis according to written protocols (primarily UV-Vis spectroscopy, Fluorescence spectroscopy, liquid chromatography, FPLC-AKTA)
  • Perform test method validation experiment according to written protocols
  • Develop analytical methods for protein/ enzyme characterization


EXPERIENCE
Required Skills:

  • Undergraduate major biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, biology or engineering
  • Minimum of four semesters of undergraduate laboratory coursework
  • Lecture and laboratory coursework in quantitative chemical analysis or equivalent 

Desired Skills:

  • Should have solid understanding of the fundamentals of chemistry, biochemistry, protein characterization, enzyme chemistry.
  • Should have enjoyed the minimum four semesters of undergraduate laboratory coursework noted above
  • Should have good hands for laboratory work


EQUIPMENT

  • Training on analytical instrumentation will be provided

Qualifications/Eligibility

  • Education: Undergraduate major in biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, biology or engineering
  • Minimum of four semesters of undergraduate laboratory coursework
  • Lecture and laboratory coursework in quantitative chemical analysis or equivalent
  • Student must be returning to school in the Fall Term OR has graduated within the 1 year of the start of the intern program
  • Must be available to work 40 hours a week
  • Housing and Transportation is responsibility of the Intern
