Business Systems Analyst, EHS MIS

Summary

Serve the strategic and operational environmental, health, and safety (EHS) information solutions needs of our global operations. As an EHS Management Information Systems (EHS MIS) Business Systems Analyst, you will be provided with the opportunity to lead the development and implementation of EHS MIS solutions that will drive EHS services for our site, regional, and global customers, as well as drive EHS decision making. Working with internal EHS teams and our business partners, you will play a leading role in guiding multi-disciplinary teams in the development of enterprise EHS MIS solutions. Key Responsibilities Include:

Serves as the information solutions lead for BioMarin’s global EHS function.

Acts as the primary interface between the EHS department and internal Information Management (IM) functions and external IM partners.

Drives EHS data management life cycle needs through visioning, design, testing, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities:

Thinks strategically, ensures deliverables are aligned with broader organization and creates awareness of this direction with affected team members and business functions.

Utilizes a strong Information Management (IM) background in the areas of EHS management systems, multi-media (air, water, waste) compliance, incident management, risk management, and sustainability.

Acts as an ambassador, system owner, and primary technical contact for queries for EHS related software and applications. Facilitates the management of change issues with the adoption of new information systems.

Leverages new EHS technologies to create innovative solutions to support the business in achieving its strategic goals across global, regional, and site EHS functions. Provides input on strategy based on knowledge of industry and technology trends.

Works closely with business Subject Matter Experts and IM business solutions managers to capture and prioritize all reporting requests for the EHS department and address and/or escalate any data, process and technical issues that inhibit the vision and enhanced efficiencies of the business needs and change.

Assists in identifying and evaluating system solutions and procedures which meet user requirements. Manages/supports the design and implementation of software solutions and applications in support of EHS business needs. Coordinates with development team members using fit for purpose project methodologies. Analyzes user requirements, prepares requirements documents, as-is and to-be processes and identify gaps.

Configures/deploys EHS solutions; specific activities include publishing system design documents, configuring components within the solution, analyzing/migrating data, and developing custom reports/dashboards and automated interfaces.  Enables mobile functionality wherever required and applicable.

Develops appropriately detailed specifications and documentation for EHS MIS systems and processes that are clearly understood by the development teams and users. Prepares test plans, conducts unit testing, integration testing, regression testing and user acceptance testing (UAT).

Develops analytical reports and assists with documenting applications, data integration, and support procedures. Assists in identifying integration issues and collaborates with the appropriate business functions. Reviews functional specifications to ensure that business requirements are met.

Maintains close working relationships with appropriate business partners to ensure system functionality accurately represents data.

Participates in activities that review processes to recommend changes and process improvements where justifiable. Explores enhancements and other functionalities of the EHS MIS systems to maximize the efficiency of business systems.

Prepares reports on regular cadences, as well as conducts ad hoc data mining and analysis to drive managerial decisions and focused improvement efforts. Streamlines and automates recurring reporting efforts. Communicates findings to stakeholders and leadership. Escalates problems as needed.

Provides onsite and remote support assisting the department and its business partners in defining EHS MIS reporting needs and solution specifications/requirements. System administration such as user provisioning, troubleshooting, and system maintenance.

Provides knowledge transfer enablement through formal documentation and end-user training. Engage in system support and training documentation, prepare and present training to internal users.

Interacts frequently with internal business partners while building new relationships and networking with consulting organizations. Develops internal relationships to support the overall growth and success of EHS MIS practices.

Requires regular attendance to perform essential elements as contained herein between the assigned start and end times for work.

Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, other internal departments of the Corporation and the community.

Maintains the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

Performs such individual assignments as directed by the reporting manager.

Education

Undergraduate degree in a relevant science, engineering, information management or related field minimum requirement.

Master’s Degree in a relevant science, engineering, or information management field preferred.

Experience

Minimum Experience:

Required minimum experience is dependent upon previously attained education level:

  • At least 5 years prior experience required with an advanced degree.
  • At least 8 years prior experience with an undergraduate degree.

Additional Preferred Experience

Experience in enterprise information systems development/implementation and/or in a system administrator role with Intelex or at least one-off-the-shelf EHS management information system (e.g., Sphera Essential Suite, Enviance, Enablon, Technidata EC, SAP EHS, Gensuite, or others).

Experience with other related systems highly desired including ISNetworld, CISPro, Verisk 3E, Chemdoc, RegScan, EnviroManager, OneLook, CMMS Infor EAM, Trackwise QMS, Veeva, and OSI Soft.

Experience in Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in a Cloud/SAS environment.

Experience translating business processes and business requirements into dashboards and reports to support business decision making.

Experience in analyzing business data from simple to complex/large data sets and translating into valuable business information.

Experience in the development of metrics and key performance indicators in graphic/visual form using Power BI business analytics platform.

Experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and/or EHS compliance/consulting is preferred for this position.

International EHS MIS development project experience, working across time-zones and managing remote teams.
