Technical Development Lead

BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients. Technical Development Lead

This role will operate in partnership with the key stakeholders across the site to develop, lead & coordinate a training & skills programs designed to maximize the effectiveness of the business. 
In addition, the role has a very specific day to day orientation to support and provide training to the business in the areas of colleague onboarding, colleague training/learning, organizational change and continuous professional development. The role will report into the Director of Business Operations at Shanbally, Ireland.


Improve all elements of the business through (but not limited to) the following:
• Collaborates with site leadership team & departments as appropriate to ensure training is a core consideration for all technical operations. Give particular focus on training that will reduce/eliminate robustness issues and enhances efficiency and effectiveness of all staff.
• Develops and executes the site’s 70/20/10 learning and development strategy for colleague; onboarding, ongoing training/learning and continuous professional assignments & development.
• Establishes and monitors training leading & lagging metrics and drives continuous improvement.
• Manages all external training vendors, programs and equipment including CPD, external professional bodies and customized third level programs. Measure their effectiveness and formulate improvement and execute where applicable.
• Day to day management of training within the Shanbally Site inclusive of annual training plan, site training priorities, site and corporate sponsored programs and initiatives, training budget, metrics and site targets.
• Supports the site Compliance wire Training administrators to assure compliance with regulatory training requirements and internal quality standards.
• Execute gap analysis of site training programs and develop improvement plans and execute in a timely manner.
• Be alert to and able to act upon latest trends, developments & technologies across industry.

• Relevant diploma/degree in training and a Science/Engineering background preferred but not essential.

• Minimum 5 years of relative training & development experience in industry.
• Sound knowledge of cGMPs and equivalent industry regulations.
• Experience in systems thinking.
• Knowledge of performance measurement tools and metrics.
